  • Redlight Camera Warning System Gift Ideas

Do you know of someone that spends a lot of time driving where there are redlight cameras? Well, we may have a few gifts they might like.

The Cheetah C100 Redlight / Speed Camera Detector ($224.95)is pre-loaded with thousands of safety camera GPS locations, including redlight and fixed positions speed cameras, and you can even mark up to 100 locations yourself. The C100 also has the Rescue Me feature, which when enabled, will announce your exact GPS co-ordinates. A digital compass is also included and with a press of a button, the C100 will announce your driving direction.

The Whistler RLC-100 Redlight / Speed Camera Detector ($79.99) also uses GPS locations with an on-board database of redlight and speed camera locations, and alerts you when you are near one. Another great feature of the RLC-100 is that it has a secondary power outlet so you can connect a radar detector or other 12 volt device to it. (Interface cable sold separately - Radar detectors that use a phone style jack will also need to use our Bel / Escort Barrel Power Cord Adapter).

These are a true GPS warning systems. They do not require you to use redlight camera websites for inconsistent updates, or have to constantly check your location on a phone or navigational display while driving.

  • Shopping for a Radar Detector to Give as a Gift?

Do you have a friend or family member that has mentioned they would like a radar detector? Well, shopping for a detector can be a rather involved task. One thing you might want to do, is check out our radar detector buyers guide. But, I thought I would pass along the detectors that I personally suggest people will like.

If your budget is under $100, then the Whistler Pro 68 Radar Detector ($99.99) is the way to go. It is probably the best detector for the price.

An upgrade from the Pro 68 is the Whistler Pro 78 SE Radar Detector ($169.95). This is one of the best performing detectors for under $200, it is very popular, a great detector, and has some great features.

Next is the Bel Professional Series RX65 Radar Detector ($339.95). We have a very detailed review here on our radar detector blog that shows why this is one of the best detectors around for any price.

If you are looking for perhaps the best traditional style radar detector, then give the Escort Passport 9500ix Radar Detector ($499.95) a look. The ability to block out false alerts, and a redlight camera warning system, along with amazing range and performance makes the 9500ix one of the top detectors around.

These are just a few suggestions, please call or email us with any questions you have. Our staff is ready to help you find the right gift (even if it is just for yourself).

  • The Use of Laser to Determine Speed Being Challenged in Some States

The use of laser devices to determine speed has been slowly growing here in the US and in other countries. Radar is still the main system used to determine a vehicles speed due to laser being more expensive and requiring additional training. Eventually, there are going to be a lot more laser systems being used, and honestly current detectors have a bit of a problem giving a fast enough warning. A laser often only needs about 1/4 of a second to clock your speed. This is why we recommend products such as Laser Veil and Blinder Laser Jammers.

As the use of lasers expands though, they are running into a few legal battles. In Chicago, the tactic of challenging their accuracy is being used to beat tickets. The same thing is also happening in Hawaii. So if you are in Chicago, or even luckier - Hawaii, and get a ticket from a laser gun, you might be able to get out of it.

In time, the use of laser will have enough supportive legal precedence built up, and questioning their accuracy in court will just not work. We will continue to look for more products to defend yourself from getting a ticket from a laser device, and offering great deals as well!
