Having trouble getting the XTR-540 video to play.
My question is how much of a warning time does a battery operated unit provide compared to a cord unit?

Hi Norm, I just checked and the video plays fine for me. What web browser are you using? It should be viewable in Internet Explorer 9, Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, and most tablets and smartphones, including android, iPhone and the iPad. However, it has not been tested in Internet Explorer 8. You may want to try viewing it in another browser.
UPDATE: I just realized you may have been trying to view the old video, which also played for me. We have a newer video that provides a close-up look at the XTR-540 in action. Also, it is in HD so it will require some bandwidth.
As for the XTR-540 itself, we don't have hard numbers but we estimate the warning time for a battery operated radar detector such as the XTR-540 to be about 20% less than a corded model. There is a bit of a trade-off for the convenience of having a cordless model. Of course, the performance will not be as great as a more expensive, higher end radar detector with all the bells and whistles.
However, there are a number of vehicles out there today with dashes that are not designed to accommodate corded radar detectors, and as cordless models go, The XTR-540 performs well, which makes it a good choice for situations in which using a corded radar detector is awkward or just isn't feasible.
