  1. OUTSTANDING MOTORCYCLE RADAR DETECTOR review by tony on 10/7/2014
    Rating

This radar detector works great on a motorcycle. I installed this on bmwr1200rt so that it looks like its part of the bike and having the led in the helmet is a plus. So far this detector has saved me many times. This is worth every penny.

  2. A nice compact unit review by countyman on 5/20/2013
    Rating

A nice compact unit for a motorcycle. Easy to mount with plenty of brackets. There should be a way of connecting the cable of the dash mounted LED so that doesn't blow when pluged in. I read the instructions and the light did not go ,so I pushed the plug tighter ( with the unit switched on ) which caused the LED to fail. My fault for not following the instructions.

  3. Great service, delievered in New Zealand review by Graeme on 12/1/2012

Have not fitted as yet but looks good I'm sure will be ideal for my bike The police in NZ are tending to sit at the end of passing lanes, they have many unmarked cars, and are currently focusing on motorbikes (not targeting) Yeah Right

  4. I'm pleased with my purchase review by Bluewater Bill on 9/9/2012
    Rating

I am very pleased with this purchase, especially at the price. It appears to have good sensitivity, and I like being able to install it on the bike and leave it there. On the other hand, it was a complex and fiddly installation, not well-suited to bikes that don't have a lot of bodywork, and getting all the settings optimized for my particular needs will be time-consuming. However, once that has been done I expect to enjoy using it.

  5. Great idea, Close to nailing it. review by Larry on 6/6/2012
    Rating

Installation took a couple of hours, mostly trying to determine where to put things. Sound warnings are useless on a bike so I don't miss that. After only a month the display quit, possibly my fault, and I just now returned the unit to the manufacturer so we will see how good the customer service is. I still have not been successful finding a place to mount the in-helmet display which I think is a fantastic idea. I LOVE having the ambient temperature displayed and the voltage display is also a good thing. All in all I love the unit and look forward to getting it back and on the bike. I do wish an extension cord were offered, even as an accessory since the laser unit's cord is too short to make it from the rear of the bike to the connection point.

  6. Could have been a great detector review by Bad Boy on 4/30/2012

This is a discontinued model now. It could have been a great model if Whistler just spent a couple of dollars on better components like wires, plugs, switches. What is great is it can be concealed in the motorcycle. I don't have to remove it every time I stop for a break. The voltage meter is a great addition, the temperature gage is uselessly inaccurate. The LED control screen fogs up in very cold weather and goes dark in extreme hot sun. Functionally it works great if you can get the thing plugged together and working. The interface is designed for cruiser handle bar mounting. If Whistler was smart the interface would have been designed for sport bike mounting, a better market for detectors. The optional head set works great once I spray the switch with contact cleaner and bend the battery prongs tighter. I had this model on a previous bike for 5 years & 50k miles. Despite its flaws I bought a new one when I replaced the bike. It is cheap and works well if you fuss with the wiring.

  7. Decent product, low key review by nemo on 4/2/2012

Fairly cheap, I liked how it was very low key and didn't stick up in the middle of the gauges like all the other ones and their brackets. I was able to install mine without drilling a single hole. I was getting a few false readings at first and finally found it was just a lose connection which I think alot of people don't realize is how tight that connection really has to be. I then was getting false readings from the rear laser sensor and had to send that in to get addition shielding put on. (was free) Overall after the installation and figuring all the problems out. I have had it for a few weeks now and the product itself works great. I really like the battery voltage and temperature. The got the WIHD (wireless in helmet display) for free with the product which I HIGHLY recommend. My only complaint is I already have to replace the battery's. I installed this on my 07 GSX-R 600 and ended up writing a write up on it to help people with the install. It was VERY time consuming. You can see the write up at http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5566949

  8. worked first test ride. review by Coug66 on 3/18/2012

Installed on my bike in 1 hr, the kit gave me plenty of options. It took longer due to determining the best mounting location. They even give you an extra laser sensor which gives you flexability mounting the main laser/radar unit. If you mount the main unit behind plastic you will lose laser signal. you can then install the small laser sensor in an unobstructed location. This radar system saved me first ride. At first I thought the radar had a short " false alarm" KA band. I thought it was a automatic door. then it kept going flashing faster, I came round the corner and there he was a undercover Dodge charger coming the other way. the light in my helmet alerted me just fine. If you didn't have the helmet light it would be useless, but it comes with it here. I love this system, bought two and will install the other unit tommorrow on my RSVR. Since I hire a lawyer when I get a ticket these units are very cheap and prevention is the best sollution. I hate giving money to the lawyers.

  9. Very Pleased With This Detector! review by Tom the sound guy on 1/18/2012

Received this as a gift (Thanks, Mom!), and I love it (and the peace of mind). It took about two hours to install, and offers a few different ways to configure the setup, which is nice. I've mounted the primary detector/temp probe under the chin fairing, and it's nearly invisible (but what shows looks good), and the tail laser sensor under the topcase rack. This left me just a bit short hooking up the rear sensor, however. Three feet of wire come from the remote laser sensor, and another three feet come from the computer/gauge (mounted for now on the bars, but will ultimately be mounted in a pod under the windshield- which may also improve daytime visibility). The wire just reached, but this left the wire too close to the coil packs, and sympathetic ignition spark resulted in false Laser reads whenever the rpm's rose above 3K or so (tail sensor only, which the display designates clearly). Whistler sells an extension lead, which I'll be picking up shortly, and should let me re-route around the problem. For now, it's disconnected, but the rest of the system works beautifully without it. If not for the On-Helmet LED, this would be a little pointless- unless you're on a cruiser, with the gauge directly in front of you (on a sport bike, you're looking at the Road, not the dash). But with the Helmet LED, the light is right in your periphery, and hard to miss (Very Nice). Two separate City modes (as well as Highway), and a customizable display are also great features. The only cons I would report are that it's a bit difficult to see in bright light, and that it does not come with an audible alarm, which, if it was done properly, would be a nice supplement to an otherwise Excellent detector.
