Passive Laser Defense

Passive laser defense products work by making your vehicle less friendly to police laser guns. Laser (or LIDAR) is light. In order to measure your speed, the light has to reflect off your vehicle and back to the laser gun. These passive products cover the areas of your vehicle that police are trained to aim for, generally your front license plate or headlights, and make them less reflective. This generally gives you around 5 seconds to react to a laser warning from your radar detector before the officer will get your speed. Five seconds doesn't sound like much time, but compared to the 1/4 second it usually takes for a laser gun to measure you speed it is an eternity.
