Danny narrowed down our selection to the four radar detectors that he feels represent the ideals of a true "best" radar detector based on different budgets.

If you want pure police radar detection range and sensitivity and could care less about anything else, then you might find the 940 to be one of the best radar detectors around. It has a mad price, mad performance, and might need a bit of therapy. Warning, this model is known to pick on other radar detectors, tease them and steal their significant other!

The Whistler Pro 78 SE radar detector is a favorite around here. We like the budget price, good performance, and all of the features. While other models may be a bit better in one category, the total Pro 78 SE package is hard to beat.

The Beltronics STi Driver radar detector is popular for a reason. Besides being undetectable, it is also a top performance model!

The Escort Redline radar detector is almost too sexy to make a video about. The unrestrained, all-out performance has already made it a legendary radar detector. Just looking at it is an indecent act!

On his most recent blog post, the Veil Guy discusses some concerns he has about the new Laser Interceptor laser jammer that is gaining a bit of buzz. He feels that the jammers might be a bit too powerful and could potentially cause eye damage. We have seen some positive comments about the jammer, so we were a bit surprised.

Well we are going to have to do some research into this, while we want to carry as many products as we can, we also do not want to sell anything that is dangerous or does not work as well as the manufacturer describes. The jammer may turn out to be a very good product and safe to operate, but we need some more information first.

This is just another reason why we also encourage people to do some research into the products they buy. You need to check out actual reviews, and to not rely on what the manufacturer tells you. We have mentioned before on this blog about how you are your own best research resource.

Also do a bit of research into the company that makes these products. How long have they been around? What do most people think about them? Has anyone even heard of them?

An example of this (continuing the theme) is laser jammers. Every week it seems we learn of some new laser jammer, but we still only sell jammers from Blinder, Escort and Beltronics. Why is that? The truth is many of the claims made by these "exciting new companies" are unproven. They cannot back up what they tell us their product does, and we should just "trust them". No thanks, we are trying to help people avoid getting tickets here. Prove that what you sell can do that and we will talk, if not then we are not interested.

Another reason we are picky about what we sell, very few of these companies stay in business for more than a year. If you buy one of their products and have any problems, or even just want to buy a new lens cover you will not be able to. We do not want to carry items only to have to tell one of you "sorry we cannot help you, that company is no longer around". In fact, just a while back one of the better known laser jammer companies went out of business.

We look for provable items from established and reliable companies. We try our best to work with companies that are reputable and have a proven record of customer service. We want you to feel secure that if you ever do have any problems, the manufacturer will be able to help you out.

Always do a bit of research before buying something. There are a lot of items out there with misleading claims, or exaggerated capabilities. Be an informed shopper, get the best gear you can to protect yourself from tickets, shop within your budget, and buy from a reliable source.
